SB202 becomes law

On March 13, 2024, Governor Holcomb signed SB 202 into law. The StopSB202 campaign at PFW will now shift its focus to working with local administrators and the Purdue Board of Trustees to make sure the ill-conceived law does not harm the campus’s ability to achieve its mission. For more information about the bill, see the Indiana Conference of the AAUP’s press release. See also the Indiana Conference’s page of resources on SB202.

KT G46: Agenda for 17 Sep 12-1:15 PM Meeting

Below is the agenda for meeting of the Fort Wayne chapter of the AAUP, which will take place a week from today, Monday, September 17, from noon to 1:15 pm in KT G46.

If you are an IU faculty member who wants to be involved in AAUP, please come to the meeting. For a local chapter to form at a university, there need to be at least seven faculty members who are members of the national AAUP organization on the campus. At present, there are not enough IU faculty members with the AAUP to form their own chapter, but you are more than welcome to be part of our group. The revised bylaws (attached) give the name of the university as Purdue Fort Wayne, because there are enough PFW faculty members in AAUP to have a chapter. However, if we need to formalize a mechanism to allow IU faculty members to be part of this chapter, we will happily do so.

The Indiana Conference AAUP Statement of T 22 Nov 2016

ICAAUP STATEMENT REGARDING RECENT EVENTS AT IPFW

The Indiana Conference of the American Association of University Professors (ICAAUP) fully supports the faculty at Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) regarding the current situation at IPFW. The announcement of the closing of academic programs, by all reports without the appropriate faculty input, and the notice of no-confidence in IPFW Chancellor Vicky Carwein, underscores how serious the issues at IPFW have become. The ICAAUP understands that decisions that may ultimately result in program restructuring and/or closures are extremely difficult and must include numerous factors to minimize the negative impact to the affected students and the local community. Thus, it is vital that the faculty have a voice in these decisions, as they are uniquely positioned to be the most sensitive to the needs of the students and the community. Therefore, the ICAAUP joins the senates of IPFW and Purdue, in urging the Board of Trustees of Purdue and the IPFW administration that, before any final decisions are made, they provide adequate time for the IPFW faculty and the Purdue University Senate to exercise their advisory rights and responsibilities regarding any program restructuring.
